Giving My Father Second Chance, Another Alzheimer Story
Posted by admin under Health & Fitness
Before the attack, I don’t have any clue about what’s people called as Alzheimer, I may heard about it sometimes, but no more than a disease that took away somebody’s awareness and make them disoriented. I also heard that the majority of the Alzheimer sufferer is the elder. At that time, I even make a joke with my friend that with or without Alzheimer, the elders mostly loose their orientation and become senile through time. That’s a really bad joke and isn’t funny anymore when my own dad got struck with it
Soon after the attack and saw with my own eyes, how my father, a person who’s before a man with high spirit and energetic get knock out by Alzheimer, I started to learn everything about it. After a view read, I find out that it was never call as Alzheimer before; it used to know as Senility or Dementia. According to the book, Alzheimer also know as one of the leading disease that causing death in the United States, where it sit at the 6th from the list of most lethal diseases.
After years, my father become more downward, rather than a slight forgetfulness into big loss of his memories, he become very hard to remember, even the event that happen 2 days earlier, he become confuses and wander. It’s hard for me to face the fact that this man once is my enthusiastic fathers who own lot of spirit that often bring many cheerful moments in our family, he is the joker before and now he looked so lonely in his own world.
On my daily reading on Alzheimer, I finally read something that brings my hope and passion back. It’s the message that The Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk® try to pass to other fellow Alzheimer sufferer, its family and any people who have some interest in helping people. This is a national movement that gathers people into nation awareness and fund raising that dedicated to Alzheimer care, support and research.
It’s open for any volunteers from any ages and background as long as they have the same vision and mission to become the winner in the war against Alzheimer. One of their programs is arrange a morning walked that inspired from typical Alzheimer’s Memory Walk where they took 2-3 mile walk for treatment. This program are involving more than 600 communities across the states and officially held on a weekend morning in the fall.
Through this project, I believe I can give my father a second chance and bring her up again to the communities where he belongs too. Through this Alzheimer national program I am really sure that we can make a different and change the world.
